Sith Marauder PvE Carnage Build

Carnage Spec – 3/33/5

Sith Marauder Carnage Spec

The data below is using gear at an average gear rating of 136 (a mixture of Columi and Rakata gear) with all level 56 and 58 mods, enhancements and armorings and without changing the Columi or Rakata mods (meaning you have a lot of accuracy and little Surge/Crit).

For the people who have specific inquires to the actual numbers used for these calculations, the calculations were conducted at: 1356 Strength, 344 Total Bonus Damage, 411 Accuracy Rating, 327 Critical Rating, 50% Critical Multiplier, 658 Bonus Force Damage.

While the absolute numbers may change, the relative numbers should remain relatively constant with the currently available gear and you can use them to get a general sense of how much damage each ability does per time and per rage spent.

It is important to note that as we begin to get more critical chance, that Massacre, Force Scream and our Ataru strikes will begin to significantly outweigh our other abilities by a landslide.

These numbers are the average damage done, including their critical chance and critical multiplier.

Force Scream and Massacre account for the extra 30% crticial strike bonus damage from Sever Talent.

Single Target DPS Rotation

  • If you can, start with a [Force Charge] which will give you 4 Rage.
  • Then use [Battering Assault] to build another 6 rage, for a total of 10 rage.
  • Then use [Gore] to apply the 100% armor penetration for 6 seconds.
  • Now use your [Massacre] ability (which will get use of the Gore buff), which will give you an extra 30% to proc an Ataru strike and will give you Execute.
  • Now pop a power or surge relic and use [Force Scream] for a Guarenteed crit that will also take advantage of Execute.
  • Then spam [Massacre], which will still benefit from Gore and your relic.
  • Now that you are out of rage, use [Ravage]. By this time your [Battering Assault] should be back up.
  • From this point on you will use [Battering Assault] to build rage, use [Gore] when you have at least 9 rage and then spam [Massacre] until your rage bar is at 2 or 3, then use [Force Scream].
  • Use [Ravage] as a filler when you don’t have enough rage for a Massacre.

As a side note, if you do not have 9+ rage and your Gore CD is ready you have two options. You can use [Assault] once (if your at 8 rage), or if you only have 6-7 rage AND your Ravage ability is ready AND Force Scream is NOT Ready, then use [Gore], [Massacre], then Ravage. But just keep in mind that using Gore with less than 9 Rage is sub-optimal.

To Make Things Simple, DPS Starting Order:
[Force Charge] -> [Battering Assault] -> [Gore] -> [Massacre] -> Power/Surge Relic -> [Force Scream] -> [Massacre] Spam -> [Ravage] -> [Battering Assault]

Then DPS Priorities:
[Force Scream] (Must have used a Massacre in past 6 seconds for Blood Frenzy Buff) > [Battering Assault] > [Gore] (Only if you have 9+ Rage) > [Beserk] ([Frenzy] if Needed) > [Massacre] Spam > [Ravage] > [Assault]

DPS Tips

  • As long as you keep using Massacre at least once every 6 seconds you will build an extra 1 rage every 6 seconds from Blood Frenzy.
  • Using Cloak of Pain when you are taking damage will help you to build 1 rage every 3 seconds
  • Using Beserk will save you 1 rage for every time you use Massacre, so when you are 9+ rage, pop relic, Beserk (Frenzy first if needed), then gore, then spam Massacre for optimal DPS.
  • If you only have 2 rage it is NOT worth using Rupture. Instead use Assault then Massacre. Assault does 3 swings which procs an Ataru Attack making Rupture less DPS than Assault + Massacre 2

Multiple Target DPS Rotation

Multiple Target DPS Priority:
[Battering Assault] > [Smash] > [Sweeping Slash] > [Assault]

Incase it’s not obvious, marauders are not the best AOE class. :P

Sith Marauder Carnage Stat Priority

First and foremost Strength is your #1 attribute/stat. Then get your Overall Accuracy to 110% (even though it appears although soft cap for current bosses is 120%). Then stack Power, which has high multipliers for our special attacks such as Massacre. Then Critical rating > Surge > Accuracy over 110%.

Stat/Attribute Priority:

Strength > Overall Accuracy to 110% > Power > Critical > Surge > Overall Accuracy over 110%

The Accuracy debate:
During my testing of recording 563 attacks over multiple attempts on Bonethrasher (Hard and Nightmare modes) I only had 3 main hand misses (0.53%) while I did have 12% offhand misses (partial Massacre hits for decreased damage and a “Dodge” or “Miss” text). I currently have 11.99% accuracy (414 points) + 6.00% from talents. This puts my main hand at 117.99% accuracy and my offhand at 84.99%.

With that being said it appears although bosses currently have a defense of 20%, with the main hand special attack accuracy capping at or below 120% and offhand accuracy capping at 97% (both including the bosses 20% defense).

It appears although any accuracy over 120% for main hand special attacks goes to waste and it begins to only benefit your offhand and force abilities. However, Offhand Massacre damage is approximately worth 22.7% of massacre crit damage (including the guaranteed Ataru proc in the calculation). Force scream is also not capped at 118% spell accuracy, so accuracy is not completely useless after 120% main hand accuracy.

Total accuracy cap for current bosses appears to be 120% Overall Accuracy. However, to get 120% Overall Accuracy would take approximately 690 Accuracy rating (From my current calculations including the Diminishing Returns and talents).

This amount of accuracy is currently unattainable without seriously sacrificing other stats, including ones that are not present on our current gear and thus have not began to be effected by diminishing returns, like Surge for example.

Notes on accuracy: If you think you’re not missing, you need to look closer. Damage Flytext is present for an entire 2 seconds on your screen, however “Miss” and “Dodge” marker flytext is only present for 0.5 seconds, its about 1/4 the size and it is almost always faded out (Swtor’s attempt to keep you interested in “Big” Numbers?). Take a look below:

Dodge: It is right under that attack for 977

Miss: It is right under that attack for 954

  • Sith Marauder PvP Builds

The two primary specializations for Marauder PvP is Annhiliation or Rage depending on your play style.

    Annhilation PvP Spec

Annhilation specialization is based very heavily on bleed effects to damage your enemy, which has some pro’s and cons. The first benefit of Annhilation bleed effects is that they will continue to tick on your opponent even if they get outside of your melee range. However, since most of your damage is DoT (damage over time) for example the ability [Rupture], that means you are also limited on burst damage, like the burst damage that both Carnage (PvE spec) and Rage (PvP Spec) have. Another major benefit of the Annhilation spec is that your bleeds do a signficant amount of constant healing to yourself when they crit via [Hungering]( 2% of your max heal everytime a bleed crits). One of the main abilities obtained from Annihilation spec is the [Annihilate] ability, which is most of the spec’s only burst, this ability deals about 150% of the damage that [Massacre] does (from the Carnage PvE Spec).

    Annihilation Spec – 33/5/3

    Sith Marauder Annhilation Spec

    Rage PvP Spec

The second Marauder PvP spec is the Rage specialization. This specialization does have very minor healing capabilities (10% of your max health everytime you use Unleash, which is a 2 minute cooldown), which can be used in certain situations very nicely, however it does not provide the constant healing that Annhilation does. The Rage spec also gives you a second “leap” to your opponent via the ability called [Obliterate], which can be used to outplay other classes knockbacks. Obliterate also does damage (about twice the amount of damage of Force Charge, IE 1600 damage) to the opponent when you charge them with Obliterate. The Rage spec also makes your attacks ignore 20% of your opponents armor passively while in Shii-Cho Form.

Rage also puts more emphasis on your Force abilites such as Force Choke and Smash. If you use [Force Charge] (or [Obliterate]), then [Force Choke] someone you are guaranteed that [Smash] will do an extra 100% Damage and it is guaranteed to be a Crit, which is a LOT of burst damage to a player.

    Rage Spec – 2/5/34

    Sith Marauder PvP Gear

Tier 1 PvP Set – Centurion Gear

Tier 1 PvP set is the Centurion set. These pieces of gear can be bought with the Centurion Commendations. Centurion commendations can be obtained from [Champion Gear Bag]‘s in the case that you don’t receive Champion Commendations/tokens.

Even though this PvP set is technically Tier 1 for PvP, these pieces of gear is just used to fill in the gaps when you don’t have the Tier 2 Champion PvP gear for that slot, which could just be from bad luck with your Champion Bag’s.

***As a side note these lightsabers have the purple color to them, but the purple lightsaber crystals are not removable (but they are removable in T2 PvE set).

The third set of PvP gear is the Tier 3 Battlemaster set that you can only get once you have obtained a Valor Rank of 60. These items are received from [Battlemaster Gear Bag]‘s, which are only obtained from the PvP dailies.

To increase your valor rank you must PvP in warzones and preferably get as many medals during each warzone as you can, regardless if you win or lose the match.

  • Notes

    • From the testing I conducted, Massacre adds a 30% chance to proc an Ataru strike on top of the base 20% chance you have from Ataru Form, thereby making the probability of proccing an Ataru attack 50% for 6 seconds after casting a Massacre.
    • The chance for an Ataru strike was not added on to the following abilities for the calculations: Ravage, Rupture, Battering Assault, Assault, Gore since these abilities will not proc an Ataru Strike 100% of the time, and will allow us to compare Ataru Damage to ability damage in future calculations.
    • 2 From my initial testing it appears although all three Assault swings roll for the probabilty of a single Ataru Strike to occur. With a Massacre within the past 6 seconds that makes 3 swings with an 50% chance to proc an Ataru Strike, however they are additive to form the probability of 1 Ataru strike: Thus 50% + 50% + 50% = 150%, which rolls the single Ataru Strike.

I’m really glad I found this. You’ve done a great job compiling all this information, and I’m glad someone really knows what they’re talking about.

One thing I’ve got to question about the Annihilation pvp spec though. I really don’t think the point in ‘Ravager’ (Rage tree) is worth it just for the one point. I can’t really think of how many times having force choke on a 55sec CD rather than a minute would make a difference, especially when you have the choice of making that point give you a chance for either for rage, fury, or multiple options for utility or decreasing damage. I really enjoy the phantom talent, for either moving through AoE’s, closing to a target after a knockback, or for an efficient escape. I know that no matter what, I’m invisible and unseen for those 4 seconds, and no matter what dots I have on me, or how many people are throwing down aoe’s hoping to prevent my escape, I can’t be touched (short of stealth scan). Anyways, thankyou so much for all this information, I’m sure I’ll be looking over and playing with these for days to test them out. God Bless

    4. Hodiste says:

Have you ever thought of trying out a Rage PVE spec? I tried it and I could see great numbers with it but it also seemed like there isn’t great mobility with that kind of spec. Also, I had a questions about your rotation priority. Do you never use Ravage after a gore? It seems like it would be your hardest hitting ability and should be used with Gore after you massacre and get a force scream off. Or does doing massacres equal out to more damage?

      • admin says:

I’ll have to take a quick look tonight at the bonus damage coefficient of ravage and massacre, but if I remember right massacres damage coefficient was slightly higher, maybe by 10%. In any case massacre will very quickly out dps ravage (with current calclations of half Rastas and half columi iravage is only 5-10 dps higher, but massacre will scale much better when we get more bonus damage and crit/surge from gear massacre will scale much faster than ravage ravage will. You can also expect force scream and Ataru strikes to scale very quickly as well due to talents, specifically sever.

    5. Todd says:

A note on your note about Assault swings and Ataru strike.

      “Thus 50% + 50% + 50% = 150%, which rolls the single Ataru Strike. ”

This is mathematically incorrect. You must use binomial expansion for multiple probabilities. The correct percentage is 87.5%

You can use this page in the future to help: http://faculty.vassar.edu/lowry/ch5apx.html

      • admin says:

Todd, I should have been more clear in my explanation. From the testing I did I did not have less than the 1 Ataru strike whenever I had the 50% proc chance and thus it procd every time with the buff. If they were individual rolls i should have not procced an ataru strike about 12% of the time (allowing for sample size error)It appears although bioware is taking the Probability of each roll on attack of ravage and combining the 3 rolls additively into a single roll to proc Ataru strike. with the addition of the 3 rolls probability into a single roll, binomial expansion is not applicable in this case.

Bioware may correct their formula in the future, but at least as of a few weeks ago it was additive probability.

      hi there,

I was wondering why not use Annhilation for Marauder as a PVE Solo Spec as it has many self heals etc. ??

I am running a Marauder Annhilation Spec and most of the time I am doing just fine. I might not do as much DPS as Carnage, but the Rage I generate I pull agro most of the time from any Tank out there.

31 points spend in Annhilation but I might want to check the DPS and suvivability on your Spec… I think the Carnage spec is more group focused correct me if I am wrong

      Thanks in advance

      • Lythknight says:

        Hello Zphinx,
When I mention Carnage as the PvE spec I’m am referring to end game PvE content, such as 8 and 16 man operations. I do agree that Annihilation is great to level as due to all the self healing (although you have less burst damage), but in terms of playing Annihilation in an operations, you do much, much less damage than a Carnage Marauder would do.

        • bain says:

Hmm, i find this hard to believe. Annihilation does insane damage. At present i am on par DPS with an arsenal spec merc with much better gear (he’s about 3 piece rakata and all 3 implants, i am full columi)Having tried carnage, the burst was nice i don’t deny, but the sustained damage lacked by comparison, without a meter its impossible to tell, but i went from a 280 – 350k warzone average down to about 140 – 200k with carnage, admittedly this is no real proof, but i found i had to work very hard to get what in the end was a much less damage. I am to test this next time i do the infernal council with different specs and see how it works out.

          • Lythknight says:

Annihilation is an excellent PvP spec, especially if you bleed multiple targets at once. I by no way am implying to be carnage in PvP, its strictly a PvE spec. As for comparing damage on nightmare 16 man council, I easily beat an Annihilation spec’d marauder, me being carnage, with approximately equal gearing.
