Update: The patch will not go live today (Patch 1.1 Rise of the Rakghouls) and it will be postponed for a few days according to Bioware.

As many of you already know, Star Wars: The Old Republic was released last month in December and has proven to be a major hit as the latest MMORPG. Bioware has been working hard to correct all game bugs that many players have found thus far.

Now that most players are level capped and working on end game content, Bioware will be releasing the first major update to the game on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. In a recent interview between GameSpot and James Ohlen, the game’s director, we find out what the major points are in the update. Here is what they talked about:

The first content release is called Rise of the Rakghouls, which will include a new flashpoint, feature more operation content, and include other tweaks.

Karagga’s Palace, one of the operations released with the game, currently contains only a single boss. With the update on Tuesday, Karagga’s Palace will now include four more bosses and a lot of additional cinematics. Bioware says that the Karagga’s operation will be an entirely different experience now.

In addition to the bosses, Kaon Under Siege will also be added to the game. This will be part one of a two part story quest line and flashpoint that will be released with another update later in March of this year. The new flashpoint, Kaon Under Seige, will flow just like the other flashpoints with being very story heavy.

Bioware is also adding Anti-aliasing and a few tweaks to the PVP system in the update as well such as:

  • Battlemaster Gear Tokens have been converted into Battlemaster Commendations, which can be used to purchase any Battlemaster gear. This allows players to purchase any piece of gear instead of requiring them to purchase the piece indicated by the token.
  • Battlemaster Bags now contain Battlemaster Commendations instead of Battlemaster Gear Tokens. They still also contain Champion Commendations.

There are also plans to add additional space levels to the game that will include new space missions. Bioware has another space project in the works but they will not release any details on it quite yet. However, they do plan on expanding the space game further than what SWTOR currently has.

In the interview, Bioware also mentioned that there will be a lot more game system changes and additions in the second update which will be released later this year in March, one of which we expect to be rated Warzones. As soon as we get more updates on rated warzones or the new game system we will be sure to post them up!
